A paper plate tambourineThese tambourines are great fun to make. Why not use them during your song time session – the children will love it.

You will need:

  • Paper plates (large or small)
  • A selection of coloured ribbons
  • Dried pasta, beans or lentils
  • Coloured pens or pencils
  • Stickers
  • A selection of paints
  • A stapler or glue

How to make a tambourine:

  1. Staple two paper plates together around the edges, leaving a gap to pour in the dried pasta, beans or lentils.
  2. Allow the children to decorate and colour their tambourine however they want to. Giving them a range of resources like ribbons, pens, stickers or paint will mean that each child will have their own individual tambourine, and you will end up with a lovely range of different colourful creations.
  3. When the tambourine has been decorated on both sides, pour in the pasta, beans or lentils until half-full and then finish stapling the edges together.
  4. Now let the children shake away and make a wonderful noise.
