Photo of an insect biscuit

More than a million different species of insect have been identified so there is plenty of scope for your children’s creativity in this edible craft.

You will need:

  • A rectangular chocolate biscuit
    e.g. ‘Penguin’ biscuit
  • A chocolate tea-cake
  • A fondant chocolate
  • Liquorice or cola laces
  • Two sweets for the eyes
    e.g. ‘Dolly mixtures’, halved
  • Icing to glue the insect together. Top tip – supermarkets sell tubs of ready-made chocolate icing which is ideal for this.

How to make an insect biscuit:

  • Cut 3 lengths of laces to make 6 ‘legs’ and stick to the biscuit with icing.
  • Place the tea-cake ‘body’ and chocolate ‘head’ on top.
  • Stick on the sweet ‘eyes’.

As with any food craft, please do CHECK FOR ALLERGIES before starting.
