Easter chicks

You will need:

• 1 piece of Paper/Card (can be either coloured or plain white)
• 2 brightly coloured Pipe Cleaners (minimum)
• Paint (optional)
• Decorations (feathers, glitter, colourful shapes, stars etc.)
• Hole Punch
• Scissors
• Glue
• Pen/Pencil

How to make Easter chicks:

1. The body of your chick is made up of either a hand print or by drawing around the child’s hand.
   
   To make the body of your chick with a hand print you need to put some paint onto a paper plate, let the child place his/her hand in the paint (make sure the palm of their hand is coated in paint) and then let them place the paint covered hand onto a piece of plain paper, leaving behind an imprint of the child’s hand.
   
   To make the body of your chick by drawing around the child’s hand you will need to place a piece of coloured card on the table. Get the child to place their hand on the card and hold it very still in place while you carefully trace around the outline of their hand. When the child lifts his/her hand away an outline of their hand will be left behind on the card.
2. Carefully cut around the outline of your hand shape so that you are left with a cut out hand shape. This will make up the body of your chick (the thumb is the head and the other fingers make up the wings).
3. Using the hole punch, punch two holes in the bottom of the hand shape. This is where the legs of the chick will be attached.
4. Thread the pipe cleaners through the holes that you have made – now your chicken has legs!!! (n.b. for really funky legs twist two pipe cleaners of different colours together to make brightly coloured, stripy legs).
5. Let your creative juices flow as you decorate your chick, you can either go for a traditional yellow chick or you could go wild and make a psychedelic multi-coloured chick.
